Slow Motion Video of Aircraft Wing Bird Strike Testing Potential Damage

Camera Used: i-SPEED 5
Frames Per Second: 5,000
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
Location: United Kingdom

In this application, the i-SPEED 514 high-speed camera was utilized to record and analyze the impact of a bird strike on an aircraft wing. For this test, the wing was positioned stationary at a distance of 3 meters in front of an air cannon, which launched a gelatin bird equivalent at a speed of 150 knots. The goal? To analyze the potential damage a real bird strike could inflict on the wing.

The high-resolution slow-motion video captured by the i-SPEED 514 provided engineers with a detailed view of the damage sustained by the wing, including the penetration of the 'bird' into the wing structure. This precise footage allowed for an in-depth analysis of the impact's effects, helping to assess the integrity and resilience of the wing under such extreme conditions.
